Salt Spray Chambers (also called Salt Fog Chambers or Salt Test Chambers) are specialized environmental testing systems designed to simulate highly corrosive saline environments and evaluate the corrosion resistance of materials, protective coatings, and surface finishes. By replicating the conditions specified in ASTM B117, ISO 9227, and JIS Z 2371, these chambers enable manufacturers to verify that their products meet corrosion protection requirements before field deployment in coastal, marine, and road-salt-exposed environments.

Some Essential Features of Salt Spray Chambers

Salt Spray System

  • Reservoir holding standardized saline solution (5% NaCl per ASTM B117 / ISO 9227).
  • Precision atomizing nozzles generating fine, uniform salt fog throughout the chamber.
  • Adjustable spray pressure and collection rate (1–2 mL/80 cm²/h) for precise test control.

Chamber Construction

  • Corrosion-resistant PVC or fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) enclosure for long-term durability.
  • Available from compact benchtop (36 L) to large walk-in configurations (1000 L+).
  • Specimen racks positioned at 15°–30° per standard requirements for uniform exposure.

Control System & Standards

  • Programmable touchscreen controller with configurable spray duration, temperature, and cycles.
  • Supports NSS, ACSS, CASS per ASTM B117, ISO 9227, JIS Z 2371, and MIL-STD-810.
  • Data logging and remote monitoring via Ethernet or USB for traceability.

Safety & Monitoring

  • PT 100 temperature sensors maintaining ±2°C chamber accuracy throughout the test.
  • Low-solution level alarms, over-temperature protection, and fault indicators.
  • Exhaust management and neutralization system for safe laboratory operation.

Temperature & Solution Control

  • Standard operating temperature: 35°C ± 2°C (NSS) with saturation tower at 47°C ± 2°C.
  • pH control: 6.5–7.2 (NSS/ACSS) and 3.0–3.1 (CASS with acetic acid and copper chloride).
  • Air supply pressure: 70–170 kPa (10–25 psi) with moisture-free compressed air input.

Optional Add-ons

  • Cyclic corrosion testing alternating salt spray, dry, and humid phases (VDA 621-415, SAE J2334).
  • Humidity conditioning chamber integration for combined climatic and corrosion stress testing.
  • Walk-in configurations for large panels, full assemblies, and automotive body parts.

Standard Models
